Definition
Towing and labor coverage (also called roadside assistance) is an inexpensive auto insurance add-on — typically $5–$15 per year — that pays for towing and basic roadside services like flat tire changes, jump starts, fuel delivery, and lockout assistance. Coverage is usually limited per disablement event (commonly $75–$150 per tow). It is important to understand that towing and labor only covers labor at the disablement site and towing costs; repairs at the shop are paid separately. Drivers who are members of AAA or have a manufacturer roadside program may have duplicate coverage — compare benefits before adding it to your policy.
