Definition
Homeowners or renters insurance coverage (Coverage D) that pays for temporary housing and additional living expenses if your home becomes uninhabitable due to a covered loss. This includes hotel bills, restaurant meals above your normal food spending, and pet boarding costs. Usually capped at 20–30% of your dwelling coverage limit, or set as a flat dollar amount on renters policies.
